Well the new house build continues at its own pace – slow and steady!

It now actually looks like a real house and its all very exciting to see. We’re very happy with the changes we made that caused all the delays as they have undoubtedly improved the look externally and also had a big impact on the space upstairs.

With the flooring now in upstairs we are able to walk about freely and get a true idea of how things will look. We had high expectations and thankfully it seems even better than we’d hoped.

Homeward Bound

After an agonising 14 week period of inactivity, the self build roars back into life. The reasons for the delay are too long and too depressing to go into but suffice to say we were badly let down by other parties.

The good news is that new design has resulted in substantial improvements and the house is gonna be even better than we had hoped.

We’re now hoping for a concerted effort from the builder to push this project on and for us to be sitting on our new sofa in our new house come February/March ….. we’ll see!

After almost 6 weeks of continuous sleep I feel able to return to the world.
Well 6 weeks down the line and my new house must be cracking on? Well nope. Exactly nothing has happened due to a ‘problem’ with roof truss designs. Except when we finally pinned the builder down for a meeting it wasn’t really a problem at all. Here’s hoping it gets going sooner rather than later.

Builder Shock

Much to my complete and utter disbelief the builders have been cracking on at a great pace. Not only are the foundations dug, the concrete been poured and a decent amount of brick work been laid – they have also started building the kit onsite. Quite incredible really considering our concerns in relation to the last build they worked on.

Let’s hope it continues.

And about time too! The foundations are dug and hopefully concrete is getting poured as I write.
Never thought a hole in the ground could be so exciting.

So you’d think that considering you’re spending hundreds of thousands of pounds that your builder would maybe return your calls and perhaps want to arrange a start date? You would think that wouldnt you!

Self Build Home

One of the major hurdles on the road to our new home has been covered. Our amended plans have received approval.
It’s been a long, long time since we decided to make some ammendments to our plans and its been a thoroughly depressing and demotivating period as we were kept totally in the dark by planning for such a long time. It’s such a relief to finally see some light ahead and I can allow myself to get excited about the whole project once again.

We just need to sort out a few issues now with our preferred builder and it’ll be full steam ahead! Maybe, just maybe we’ll be in our new home for Christmas.

I’ve got a feeling that this blog is going to turn into my outlet for my probable rants as self build homes rarely go smoothly!
