Holidaying in Ireland

Just back from a trip to Ireland. The coast around the very northern tip of Southern Ireland is a beautiful combination of rugged rocks and long sweeping golden beaches.

Self Build Progress

Well the new house build continues at its own pace – slow and steady!

It now actually looks like a real house and its all very exciting to see. We’re very happy with the changes we made that caused all the delays as they have undoubtedly improved the look externally and also had a big impact on the space upstairs.

With the flooring now in upstairs we are able to walk about freely and get a true idea of how things will look. We had high expectations and thankfully it seems even better than we’d hoped.

My New(ish) iPod

The best thing about having an iPod is that I’m actually listening to music properly once again rather than it merely being background to something else that I happen to be doing. Old albums have gained a new lease of life and I once again get excited with the odd new release.

Homeward Bound

After an agonising 14 week period of inactivity, the self build roars back into life. The reasons for the delay are too long and too depressing to go into but suffice to say we were badly let down by other parties.

The good news is that new design has resulted in substantial improvements and the house is gonna be even better than we had hoped.

We’re now hoping for a concerted effort from the builder to push this project on and for us to be sitting on our new sofa in our new house come February/March ….. we’ll see!

Phew

After almost 6 weeks of continuous sleep I feel able to return to the world.
Well 6 weeks down the line and my new house must be cracking on? Well nope. Exactly nothing has happened due to a ‘problem’ with roof truss designs. Except when we finally pinned the builder down for a meeting it wasn’t really a problem at all. Here’s hoping it gets going sooner rather than later.

I am officially dead on my feet. A long stag weekend directly followed by 3 nights of baby interupted sleep has taken its toll on me. Feel like I need to sleep for a week to recover.

Laptop

Well I’ve had my new laptop for 2 weeks now and I don’t know how I got by without one before. However I have hardly used it for the real reason it was purchased – neglected freelance work.

It has proven a great source of entertainment on the train commute. Finally catching up on all those films I’ve missed and some of the US TV shows with their 20 odd episodes. I’m trying to watch all of season 6 West Wing before the new one comes out in September and I’ve also started watching Lost. Seems pretty good so far although verging on the bizarre at times.

I have actually done some freelance work on the laptop, just not alot, and I’ve even got round to doing some invoicing. Once I work my way through a few more it’ll have paid for itself already.

Just having the laptop in the house has been great as well. To be able to surf in the comfort of the living room, rather than a crowded office is great. Plus remote desktop means my desktop PC can now be where ever I am.

Overall a sound investment.

Builder Shock

Much to my complete and utter disbelief the builders have been cracking on at a great pace. Not only are the foundations dug, the concrete been poured and a decent amount of brick work been laid – they have also started building the kit onsite. Quite incredible really considering our concerns in relation to the last build they worked on.

Let’s hope it continues.
